CA ANZ Achiever Program

Nexia Australia is a proud and longstanding participant in the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) Achiever Programme.

The Achiever Programme brings together university students and employers for paid work experience opportunities. This program has been rolled out across Australia and New Zealand and many of our member firms are now avid supporters.

The experience is highly valued by students and employers alike. Students receive meaningful work experience in the industry and employers can engage with potential graduate candidates before they complete their studies.

Competition is fierce for a place in the Achiever Programme. For example, in South Australia, there were over 400 applications for 44 placements with 22 employers. CA ANZ, with assistance from employers, runs a thorough selection process including a written application, video interview submission, group assessment and face to face interview.

This year, our firms offered over 11 placements and are looking forward to welcoming the CA ANZ Achievers for 2018. It will be a great experience for them to learn about Nexia and work in both Audit & Assurance and Business Advisory.

New staff portal in Brisbane

Our Brisbane team worked hard throughout 2017 in order to launch a new staff portal through CA Kairos (hosted by Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand).  This new portal allows staff to access access documents, event info, templates and more on all electronic devices, from any location.

Canberra

Tara Costigan Foundation

Nexia Canberra has been involved in several fundraising efforts for the Tara Costigan Foundation (TCF), our local charity partner. TCF works tirelessly with those who have experienced domestic and family violence to rebuild their lives post crisis.

Team members from the firm attended the annual Walk for Change in October as the Canberra community came together to raise awareness. The firm was a major sponsor of the inaugural Charity Golf Day in November and also raised a few hundred dollars through a series of raffles at the office Christmas Party in December.

The Canberra office is looking forward to getting dressed up and sponsoring TCF’s Gala Ball in June 2018. With over 300 people attending last year, it is one of the biggest fundraising events in Canberra each year.

New Premises for Christchurch

2017 was a year of change for Nexia New Zealand. On 31 March 2017, they moved into their stunning new offices on the Northern CBD fringe in Central Christchurch. From the moment they stepped foot into their new premises, it was onwards and upwards, with the formation of new processes, a refinement of best practices and the formation of a tax team.  We successfully hosted a German Secondee and held a very successful all staff fun day.

Melbourne

Networking at the Australian Open

The Melbourne office held a three-day event across the first week of the Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena. Clients were invited to watch the tennis from an exclusive Nexia Superbox, which allowed for client and contact networking, as well as an opportunity to show our appreciation to long standing clients of the firm.

This event was a first for the Melbourne office and was a resounding success. Melbourne is looking to include more client focused social and networking events in the future.

Propel Funeral Partners ASX Listing

Nexia Sydney are proud to have assisted Propel Funeral Partners become an ASX listed company in December 2017.

Propel raised $130m, and based on the issue price, had a market capitalisation of $265m. At close of business on the first day of trading the market capitalisation had increased to $323m.

Propel are a great example of a company who have chosen Nexia to fulfil their accounting needs for the life cycle of their business. The company became a client after two of their founders were private clients and they continued to use our services as their company developed. When Propel set up their investment business, Nexia were appointed auditors, and as the business has grown Nexia was appointed auditors to the operating business. When it came to the IPO our corporate advisory team were able to perform the investigating accountants work so that Propel were able to maintain the same firm for the IPO launch.

Congratulations to Propel and to all those involved in the IPO.

Nexia Sydney Directors, Joseph Santangelo and Brent Goldman attended the ringing ceremony
